The Missouri State Teachers Association held its 159th Assembly of Delegates in Columbia, Mo., on Thursday, Nov. 18. There were 505 delegates from across the state who voted on officers and resolutions for the association.
Stacy Blakely (St. James R-1) was elected president-elect, and Pam Lowe (Sikeston R-6) was elected as vice president.
The MSTA bylaws allow the state Board of Directors to approve a dues increase by no more than the Consumer Price Index, which they did in September. The assembly did not veto this increase.
The assembly approved proposed resolutions about student assessments, restrictions on federal funding, salaries and career ladder.
Outgoing president Halley Russell (Jackson R-2) oversaw the proceedings, and she passed the gavel to Chuck Martin (Bolivar R-1), who took over the position of President on Friday.
