Letters of Intent

If your school district asks you to sign a letter of your intent to return or not return to work the next year, you should comply. The letter of intent is a planning tool for the district to estimate the number of staff who will be returning, what positions may need to be filled, etc.

If the “letter of intent” has contract terms in it, such as next year’s salary and the number of school days, then it may be a contract despite the name of the document. Anytime you are unsure of the consequences of the document you are asked to sign, please contact your MSTA field service representative at (800) 392-0532. Please have the document available for the discussion.
