What is one of your goals for this year?

One of my goals for this year is to use our school garden for lessons throughout the entire school year. In the past, we haven’t done a large-scale fall planting. I’m interested in utilizing the space for learning as long as possible before freezing.

What would make this year your Best Year Ever?

This year would be the best year ever if the kids are excited to be there and we learn together. (plus, maybe we somehow get tons of money for our school garden… lol)

Why did you decide to become a teacher?

I decided to become a teacher because it just seemed like a good fit, but I stay a teacher because I’ve figured out that I really like Iearning and creating with people…plus, kids are so much fun to be around!

What is your teaching philosophy?

Never stop learning and be just as passionate about finding ways to engage others in learning.

What career would you like to have if you weren’t a teacher?

I would like to be a professional drummer.

What’s your favorite book and why?

There can’t be just one, but books that stick with me to the core include: Harry Potter because he often chooses to care for the greater good instead of choosing himself; “11/22/63: & “Ocean at the End of the Lane” because they were both so profound, I still can’t quite put it into words – they make me ponder what it means to be alive.

What’s your favorite school lunch?

It’s hard to pass up mashed potatoes and gravy.

What is something on your bucket list?

See more places that aren’t like the ones I’ve seen yet.

If you could see one band/performer, living or dead, in concert, who would it be?

I’ve been fortunate enough to see many of my favorites, but dead – Louis Armstrong and alive – Chad VanGaalen

What superpower do you wish you had?

Flying would be ‘super’ cool, but I think strength might make me a better gardener.

If you could travel through time, where would you like to visit?

I think I’d like to see my grandparents as kids.

What do you do to relieve stress?

Yoga, hiking, and talking to my husband.

What’s something about you that your students would be surprised to learn?

I can’t whistle… it comes so easily to so many, and I’ve just never been able to.
