Legal Brief: Letters of Intent

Date: 2/10/2010

Many school districts ask staff members to sign a letter of intent. The letter is used as a tool to determine if staff members intend to return to the district in the next school year. A letter of intent usually is not a binding obligation.

If you are asked to sign a letter of intent and are uncertain about its legal implications, please contact MSTA for assistance by calling toll free at 800-392-0532.

Once a month, MSTA’s legal team will post a new pointer to help you be proactive in preventing and addressing matters that sometimes lead to legal concerns. Of course, we will continue to provide our legal services to members who contact us through the regular channels.
