Legal Brief: Contracts

Date: 1/9/2008
If you have a probationary or indefinite contract to work in a school district, you are under a binding legal obligation for the duration of the contract. You cannot simply choose to quit mid-term.

Most districts have a board policy relating to the early release of an employee from a contract. Check your district’s policy to ascertain what circumstances and what procedures govern a request for early release.

If you need assistance on this or other matters, please contact MSTA (800) 392-0532.

Once a week, MSTA’s legal team will post a new pointer to help you be proactive in preventing and addressing matters that sometimes lead to legal concerns. Of course, we will continue to provide our legal services to members who contact us through the regular channels.
