New effort: Give Kids Good Schools

Date: 10/6/2006

The Public Education Network has launched a national campaign to improve public schools by encouraging community involvement in education and seeking support from voters and elected officials.

The project, Give Kids Good Schools, aims to supply advocates with information and other resources to make schools both nationally and locally the best they can be. Issues covered at the group’s Web site include funding, parental involvement, teacher quality and No Child Left Behind.

Twenty-six education and child-welfare organizations are participating in the effort, including the American School Counselor Association, and the National Parent Teacher Association.

The site also offers ideas for events for Give Kids Good Schools Week, scheduled for Oct. 16-22, and information about upcoming elections.
