Liability insurance and legal assistance
MSTA's $2 million occurrence-based liability policy protects you in the
classroom. In addition, MSTA staff members give presentations on your legal
rights at BTA workshops and local CTA meetings. If you have a legal concern,
our staff will help you resolve it.
Affordable dues
Money will be tight in your first years of teaching. That's why first-year
teachers can join MSTA for the reduced rate of $124. If you were a member of
S-MSTA during your final year of college, your rate will be $99.50. MSTA offers
the same high level of service as other professional organizations – at less
than half the price.
Professional development
To keep your certification current, you must participate in a beginning teacher assistance program.
MSTA offers several BTA workshops during the year across Missouri and online. Descriptions and registration
information is below.
Online BTA
The online course meets the state’s Initial Professional Certification requirement for "beginning teacher assistance from Missouri colleges and universities" and is endorsed by the College of Education at the University of Missouri. The online course is divided into four modules or sections which include effective communication, classroom management, education acronyms and the law and certification. Each module is to be completed over the span of one week and includes required readings, posting to discussion forums and listening to audio casts. Participants will also learn effective teaching practices and strategies for successful professional growth. Upon completing the course, which includes an evaluation, participants will receive a letter verifying they have met the IPC requirement.Onsite BTA
This workshop is designed to meet the state’s Initial Professional Certification requirement for "beginning teacher assistance from Missouri colleges and universities." The participants will learn effective teaching practices and strategies for successful professional growth. Discussions and activities will include legal issues, classroom management, parent communication and MSTA support for beginning teachers. This workshop will be completed in one day and documentation of participation will be received at the end of the session.
