MSTA job opening: Graphic designer

Magazines and newsletters, web design and more. Are you looking for variety and freedom to create in a fun environment? The Missouri State Teachers Association is seeking an experienced graphic designer for its Columbia office who has a keen eye for detail and superior software skills. Magazine and some Web experience is a must; photography skill is a plus. Our ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced workplace, work well with others and possess strong design skills. To apply online, click here. Job description

  • Designs and lays out all MSTA publications.
  • Manages department’s relationships with a variety of printers and art/graphics vendors.
  • Communicates with printers and conducts press checks as needed.
  • Serves as staff photographer.
  • Maintains archived computer files.
  • Maintains standards for the MSTA logo and other brand designs; works with staff and third-party vendors to ensure appropriate use of logos.
  • Coordinates photography and illustrations for School & Community magazine and other publications.
  • Supervises the quality of printed materials in conjunction with a variety of printers.
  • Supervises model releases, reusage fees, billing and other housekeeping tasks for the Communications Department.
  • Coordinates Web-site design and presentation of Web-site content.
  • Coordinates production of print jobs as assigned.
  • Manages model releases, reusage fees and other art-related housekeeping tasks.

Education and experience:

  • Bachelor's degree; minimum five years experience in a related position or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Skilled in the use of a personal computer, including Mac OS X, InDesign or Quark, Photoshop and Illustrator software.
  • Demonstrated design skill that includes the creation of printed pieces in a variety of formats, including multi-page projects, screen-printed items and large-format signage.
