Collective Bargaining
In May 2007, the Missouri Supreme Court made a seemingly simple ruling: public school
employees have the right to bargain collectively to negotiate employment terms;
in return, school districts must honor any agreements reached.
But the court's decision in Independence-NEA vs. Independence School District
has left many with questions. Because the court¹s decision was relatively narrow,
the General Assembly will be determining many of the answers. MSTA will be working
with the General Assembly to craft any related legislation.
MSTA also intends to be a resource for those seeking information about this court
decision, bargaining legislation and the resulting process. Get started utilizing
the resources below, and return frequently for updates.
